Sarah Hart

Early 30s, blonde, British.

Sarah is the protagonist of Hidden Sin. Her character is both fragile but fierce -vulnerable from years of trauma. She is fiercely protective of her son Jake and determined to give him the best possible life. Every decision she makes is rooted in her love for him and her desperate desire to provide him with a safe, stable future.

She arrives in Thornwood with the hope of starting over after fleeing a long-term abusive relationship. At the start of Hidden Sin, she's very cautious and closed off but as the story unfolds, she begins to let her guard down and develop new connections with those in the village.

However, Thornwood's welcoming facade soon begins to fracture when she uncovers a dark secret. Sarah must once again fight to survive and protect her son.

Tom is a central character in Hidden Sin, introduced as the attractive, charming owner of a bookstore. Tom quickly captures Sarah's attention with his calm confidence and kind demeanour.

He keeps his personal life closely guarded, adding to the mystery that surrounds him. Tom gives Sarah a sense of comfort and hope, which she hasn't felt in years.

However, as Sarah begins to discover the darker past of Thornwood, she must confront the unsettling possibility that Tom may not be as perfect as he appears.

Jake Hart

10 years old.

Jake is Sarah's ten-year-old son. He's quiet and sensitive in many ways, but also very observant. His experiences with his father have left him anxious and in fear of the past resurfacing. He is very uncertain and withdrawn when he first arrives in Thornwood and takes a while to adjust to his new life.
As the story develops, the threats in the village place Jake in danger once again. His vulnerability becomes a driving force in Sarah's decisions as his safety is her top priority. Determined not to let history repeat itself, Jake takes it upon himself to protect Sarah in any way he can.
Jake displays the biggest transformation in Hidden Sin, evolving from a frightened boy into someone who can bravely take action to protect his mother.

Lily is one of the first people Sarah meets in Thornwood. She quickly becomes a supportive friend for her, helping her settle in to her new life. With her warm smile and comforting words, Lily offers Sarah that sense of belonging she's been missing for so long. The two women bond over shared struggles of bad relationships, and Lily quickly becomes a trusted friend.
However, beneath her charm lies the biggest secret...she's a ghost, who's been dead for 10 years! What does this mean for Sarah and what are Lily's intentions?
